Folks that have goats from us... please take a moment to read! If you have related goats in your herd and plan on testing, please contact us and we can work together. A lot of times we can test a dam or sire and qualify the kids based on the parents, saving both of us some money!
CM - Congenital Myotonia is the hottest topic in Nigerian Dwarf goats at the moment. So we put together a page on our website with more information. Feel free to check it out!
www.gracehillfarmpa.com/congenital-myotonia-cm/
For those of you that want the short version...
It's the myotonic gene that creates the famous FAINT in fainting goats (myotonic goats). It's considered a defect in the Nigerian Dwarf breed and now there's a test for it so breeders are testing which is causing lots of chatter. It's not a crisis! We are testing and will work through the results. Our goats have NEVER had any symptoms and we're not going to panic. We'll do the ethical thing and breed out any that we find but we're committed to breeding and raising healthy and loved goats, as always!
